Reiki is an ancient healing art that works on many levels of being to restore physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance.
As Reiki is an energy therapy that is extremely flexible in terms of the range of challenges that human beings face on a biological, emotional and mental level, one of its main benefits consists of reducing stress, an affliction that affects a large proportion of people nowadays. A technique originating from the work of Dr. Mikao Usui, Reiki aims to heal the body, mind and spirit and is nowadays already applied by nursing staff in hospitals such as St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital. Maria in Lisbon and in several health centres in Portugal as well as IPO’s (Portuguese Oncology Institutes) which attests to the fact that Science is increasingly recognising its therapeutic effects, as Reiki is recognised and recommended by the WHO (World Health Organisation).
The profound relaxing and reducing effect that Reiki offered during the session allows the patient to significantly stimulate the body’s self-healing mechanism, strengthening the immune system and helping the patient to sleep better which, in many cases, can even lead to less need to take medication to combat insomnia, which is more common in summer.
Recurring Reiki treatments can induce an increasingly permanent state of peace that will reduce states of anxiety and depression as well as influence the quality of attitudes the person takes in their daily life. Helping in spiritual growth, it can become a philosophy of life by allowing a growth and unblocking of self-love which seriously influences the state of people with low self-esteem as well as increasing love for others which undoubtedly affects the quality of affective, family, social and professional relationships.
By healing emotional wounds, it relieves the state of constant fear and anxiety when dealing with people in the professional and social sphere, it increases self-confidence allowing a deeper connection with the other. It is also quite helpful in getting over grief. At the physical level, it has an influence on reducing migraines, arthritis, asthma, insomnia, chronic fatigue and menopausal symptoms. It also has effects at the level of reducing the side effects of conventional medicine treatments being for that reason designated as complementary therapy and never as a substitute for medicine and the role of doctors in society.
Reiki is very easy to learn. The Reiki course is divided into 3 levels and each level has, on average, one day of training which is sufficient to learn and master the technique, which is so simple that it can be taught to children from 6 years old.
